Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@innovationaba.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Innovation Behavior Services provides trauma-informed, evidence-based behavioral consultation, caregiver training, tiered ABA therapy, and Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)  for individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and co-occurring mental health needs. We work directly with clients and their caregivers. Our services include completing functional assessments, developing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the client and their guardians, analyzing data collected in the natural environment, and adjusting the plan as the individual develops new skills and reduces challenging behaviors. Caregivers, parents, and guardians are offered ongoing training to support the focus person throughout their daily activities when they are not in a session. This ensures that meaningful learning takes place in the client’s environment, rather than under artificial conditions, promoting lasting and generalized progress. Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) involve the assessment and provision of treatment recommendations, as well as staff training upon request.

You may contact us directly to arrange for ABA therapy; however, insurers will often require a letter of medical necessity and a prescription for ABA therapy from your doctor to authorize payment for services.

Innovation Behavior Services serves children, teens, and adults. Your insurance policy will determine coverage based on a medical diagnosis, medical necessity, and age, among other factors.

We work with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, AmeriHealth Caritas, Harvard Pilgrim, and those approved for Behavioral Therapeutic Consultation on the Virginia DBHDS waiver. We continually look to expand the health insurance options we offer.  We also offer private pay options.

We use a flexible hybrid model to deliver our services. While most sessions with a BCBA are conducted remotely via telehealth, in-person support is provided as needed based on each individual’s needs. In-person visits are scheduled in coordination with the client. In Kent County, Delaware, and Middlesex County, Massachusetts, technicians may also be available to provide direct services under the supervision of a BCBA in your home or in your community.

Tiered ABA (DE & MA): A BCBA leads the assessment & plan; a technician provides day-to-day sessions under the BCBA's direction and supervision. Caregivers, family members and teams are offered coaching.

Therapeutic Consultation (DE, MA, VA telehealth): BCBA-led assessment, planning, and caregiver/staff coaching to implement strategies across settings.

Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is an assessment of a student's educational needs by a qualified professional who is not employed by the school district. It provides an unbiased second opinion on a child's behavioral needs. Our evaluations focus on behavioral supports.

The team at Innovation Behavior Services is composed of experienced Masters and Doctorate level Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). Our leadership has decades of combined expertise in supporting individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD), and co-occurring mental health conditions. All clinicians are appropraitely licensed for the state(s) where they provide services.

Services are provided in the focus person's home or in the community. Therapeutic Consultation and parent training are delivered via a secure telehealth platform.

It depends on the service you want. Availability varies by location and schedule.

For Therapeutic Consultation or Independent Education Evaluation services, we can schedule an intake and initial assessment as soon as we receive documentation of authorization from the payor.

For tiered services (BCBA + Technician), there can be a wait for a technician to become available.  Daytime (9:00 AM–3:00 PM) slots typically start more quickly. Late afternoon/evening (3:00–7:00 PM) appointments typically involve longer wait times. If there’s a wait, we can begin with Therapeutic Consultation so intervention can start as soon as possible.  All services begin with the BCBA completing an assessment.  In many cases, we also will need to wait for payor authorization, which varies by insurance company and plan.

Therapeutic Consultation through Virginia DBHDS requires authorization from the Commonwealth and documentation of ISP Team agreement to telehealth services prior to the start of services.

If you require evening (3 pm-7 pm) appointments with a technician, we recommend contacting as many ABA providers as possible to get on their waiting lists as well.

While many states have a mandate for coverage of ABA services to children under the age of 18, some insurance options that we accept, such as Highmark Health Options in Delaware, many plans in Massachusetts, and DBHDS in Virginia, allow for services to be provided to adults. Contact the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to learn more about the coverage of your policy.

No. If you’re experiencing a crisis, call 911, go to the nearest emergency room if it is safe to transport the person, or contact your local crisis response team.  We teach crisis intervention techniques and incorporate crisis intervention plans into our treatment plans when appropriate.

Yes. Training that falls within our scope of expertise is available. Fill out the contact form or email us at info@innovationaba.com to learn more.

Absolutely. With consent, we collaborate with teachers, support staff, therapists, and physicians so everyone is moving in the same direction.

Bilingual clinician or technician availability is limited and varies. We can arrange for a qualified interpreter, including ASL, through a video conference or by telephone, as appropriate. Interpreter services may involve a fee, and insurance coverage and requirements for these services vary. ASL is provided free of charge. Please leave your name, callback number, the name of your insurance plan, and preferred language, and we’ll review options and costs before scheduling.

The cost to the family depends on your insurance coverage. Some plans cover the entire cost, others require a co-pay. Secondary insurance can sometimes cover the cost of co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles.  So cost can vary from $0 to whatever your plan identifies as your share. We will contact your insurance company and let you know if there is a cost associated with care.  Private pay options or services not covered by insurance are available at hourly rates.
